Faster than the jewels of the Rally Clásico Mallorca

As you can imagine, being part of a sporting event of this nature is not an easy task. And who does not know the work and dedication that comes with being part of the PR and Communication team of the Rally Clásico Mallorca, will understand it in the following lines. Because if the cars have to be fast, we have to be ahead of them at all times.

For some years now, ROI UP Agency has been in charge of communicating and publicizing the Mallorca Classic Rally. This 2018 has celebrated its fourteenth edition and on this occasion, it has been my first year within the PR team responsible for the event. It is an international sports meeting that brings together thousands of people from different countries during 3 intense days on the island, between teams and fans. Therefore, we are not exaggerating when we say that this event turns the island “upside down” .

The Rally started last Thursday, March 8, but for me and my colleagues, the starting signal had been much earlier. It is very important to have the social networks active during the previous months to inform the community of what the Rally was going to be this 2018. In addition to having the databases updated, the STD managed and the corporate material prepared, we organized two presentations for journalists and media, one in Madrid and the other in Mallorca. Both were a success. Written media, radio and television stations, both sports, motor and LS, came to know the latest news of this new edition of the Classic Rally of Mallorca. It was a sign that already indicated that in this edition we were going to conquer the race.

Press presentation of the XIV Classic Rally in Palma de Mallorca on February 28th

We arrived in Mallorca early in the morning on March 8. As soon as we left our bags at the hotel where the pilots were staying, we began to observe the atmosphere. Participants tuning up their motor jewels, pilots doing the verifications and heading towards Puerto Portals, the main location of the event.

The departure of the pilots on Thursday, the first stage of the Rally, was at 19:00. However, throughout the day the port received fans, and we, the journalists. The local press came to interview drivers, as well as Toni Dezcallar, the Rally director. In addition, we accredited both national and international reporters and photographers . We also organized press trips for them to experience this unique event first hand. They were able to drive through sections of the co-driver’s race in a Maserati, the official vehicle of the Rally.

During the three days, an essential part of my job was to send to the media the chronicles of each day and all the information on how the competition is going. Daily results of the race, the fight at the top of the standings, which stages are run each day, send totals and resources for television, as well as photographs… And of course manage daily interviews. In this way, we have achieved that the Rally is present in major national and international headers. Newspapers like El Mundo, Marca, ABC, Mundo Deportivo, radio stations like Onda Cero and Cadena Ser or TV channels like TVE and Antena 3. Once the event is over, we will also continue to manage reports with the specialized press.

And is that, after all, this is our goal. To bring the Classic Rally of Mallorca to all the target audience, and I think we have achieved it and for them we are satisfied with our work. The experience one more year has been incredible. The drivers, the organization and the fans always united in this great sporting event. Along with this, the media continue to show us one more year that a job well done deserves to be told.

Podcast, the digital conquest of radio

It was a very different time from today. In 2004, the digital revolution, still in its infancy, was advancing by leaps and bounds. The music industry was shaking in the midst of an unprecedented storm brought about by the rise of MP3, piracy, the big P2P file-sharing platforms and a device that would change everything: the iPod.
